Why so droopy?

I was at a wedding a while ago, and it was really fun and I drank too much and ate too much ham. But a disturbing trend emerged among the pretty young things: The sack dress for all occasions.
I know the shapeless bag dress worn with dress sized bag and unremarkable flats is what the ladies like. But for a wedding? I don’t know about you but when I go to a wedding I want to see a little huzzah from the ladies. Instead I have to dance with a room full of Sofia Coppolas. Cue the Joy Division.
Even Ms. Coppola celebrates by wearing something with a waist once in a while.

I don’t like music festivals. Never have. So the idea of Glastonbury seems like my worst nightmare. Or as the Guardian’s Charlie Brooker put it:
Here’s an entirely random list of things I hate. Mud. Rain. Inconvenience. Any form of discomfort whatsoever. Loud noises. People. People’s friends. People standing next to other people, with yet more people in between. Drunks bumping into you and being sick down your leg. Poorly maintained public toilets.
This is a music festival in the desert in Mali. I don’t know, seems like more fun. Better outfits. Camel races. No Kate Moss.

You’re okay Vancouver

Here are some things I would like to wear this summer. All made in Vancouver by two super talented ladies. I like that all of these pieces are made of very simple materials. There are not a lot of options for Vancouver designers as far as fabric and materials suppliers, so it’s nice to see how people work with what they have in innovative ways.

Throw down your shackles and pick up this handbag.

I like to spout off on a lot of things, and one of my favorite topics is overpriced handbags. It fits into my broader rant about how women are being sold into consumer slavery by luxury goods marketing. It usually ends with some life affirming speech about how women should get rid of their credit cards and reject $1500 handbags.
This also means that I don’t have a nice bag.
But things are looking up …

If it has a concession, I’ll be there.

There are only three things that I aim to do each summer in Vancouver:
1. Go to the drive in.
2. Go to the baseball game.
3. Go to the Richmond night Market.
Last year I only managed the night market and, as always, it was a delight. I bought twelve pairs of plain white socks for ten dollars! They are of a variety of sizes and thicknesses, but all in all not a bad deal. Cute shoes too, but none in my (mannish) size.
