Toque
November 27, 2007 · Leave a Comment
I am really excited about Christmas, and can hardly wait until Saturday when egg nog and mandarin oranges will be allowed across the threshold.
On Friday night there is a top notch Christmas craft fair at the Western Front. Julie Morstad (bee and hornet) and Sara Edmonds (Office for the Reanimation of Dead Ideas) will be selling their wares and they are always a favorite . But also a few good ones for the boys, which is great because crafts are, by their very nature, a chick thing.
In honour of the men who buy things at Toque, I am upgrading it’s status from craft fair to design fair, more butch.

Vodka, Caviar and Omar Sharif

If you are having a Christmas party this year, it might be nice, in some seldom used room of your house, to run a copy of Doctor Zhivago without the sound. It will be a really exciting surprise for anyone who stumbles upon it. Keep the room dark, spray the window with fake frost and cover the couch with a fur throw, but otherwise leave the room very spare, like a simple dacha.
The technicolor version of the Russian revolution looks really festive. The snowy Ural mountains, horse drawn sleighs, fur coats.

Because I’ve been so crazy about the jewels lately (especially the investment pieces) here’s a look at Karen Walker jewelry… the presentation is outstanding. These pictures plus Kaviar and Kind really make me want to open a jewelry store. I am borrowing shamelessly from ~>O<~ because she always finds great stuff and I am limping behind a bit pathetically.

nouvelle nouvelle

I am so out of touch that I didn’t even know this store existed until two days ago. It’s called Nouvelle Nouvelle, it’s cute, has nice ladies working there, carries Mociun, has great flooring, and this weird dog. Ridiculously, their blog doesn’t have their address, so I’ll give it to you: 209 Abbott St.

Big guns

I’ve really been into flashy jewelry lately and I love Los Angeles store Kaviar and Kind. Really eccentric investment pieces, like jewelry should be. I think this kind of money looks particularly good on old dames. Picture that ring sidling up to a big knobbly knuckle. You can’t mess with that.
