I’ve been thinking about Italy a lot lately. Mostly because the weather here is total balls, but also because Gourmet has some great recipes from Italy this month, and a photo spread of good looking people having lunch on an Italian beach. Made me think of The Talented Mr. Ripley a bit (the book, not the movie) before Dickie is killed off. In the book Patricia Highsmith has Marge wearing a tomato colour swimsuit in one scene and I am jealous when I think of it.

I love German stuff! Sausages, beer, Tyrolean hats, lederhosen. So I am overjoyed that I found the Deutsches haus website! Germans sharing all their incredible geegaws with the world! Enjoy!
Hummel wine glasses! If I had known these existed I would have put them on my wedding registry.

I have a slight horror of bandanas. But I’ve been working through it with a cognitive behavior therapist and might be okay with them now. I still feel a bit like I’m going to gag when I see traditional bandanas (especially the red ones). But I’m actually okay with this kind:
And, of course, the fashion kind:

I often find design blogs to be quite homogenous. However, I discovered the amazing Belgian designer Andrea Ayala Closa through design sponge so maybe I should just chill out (as the kids say).

kiosk

There’s this store in New York called Kiosk that sells geegaws and whatnots from a rotating cast of different countries (right now is Finland). I know I don’t need half this stuff, but it’s all so oddly intriguing when it is removed from it’s home context. They also have travel booklets.
Reminds me somehow of the cookbook Falling Cloudberries by Tessa Kiros. Something about the mixed bag of travel and recipes and good styling.
Here are some of Kiosk’s wares:
