If Dubai was made of denim
A few years ago a friend gave me some beautiful little samples of sashiko, a form of japanese embroidery used in mending, especially on indigo fabrics and I have wanted to make something using this technique ever since, but I haven’t found the right project. Then a few months ago Ouno had a great post about recycled japanese textiles. Also, this girl on the Sartorialist caught my eye, not because I love the style of the patchwork, but because I like the idea of layered, patched denim.
Then today, this picture of the Dubai coast appeared in the NY Times and I thought that it could lend itself to a sashiko stitch pattern. A pattern is emerging. There may be a thick indigo patched coat in my future.
