Great Dames Part 4
In honour of her winning the Mercury prize for a second time, I am dedicating this Great Dames Column to PJ Harvey. Not only has she constantly surprised and challenged with her music, but she really uses clothing in a simple and effective way to create persona. No meat dress or pants made of toys needed to frighten and arouse. Just check out some of the pictures below to see what I’m getting at.
Plus, usually when I look at pictures from 2000, I get embarrassed because it seems so recent but actually looks like 1996. When I look at the cover of Stories from the City, Stories From the Sea (2000), PJ Harvey actually looks cool. Unlike the rest of us in our boot-cut jeans and Preloved sweaters.
